Let's get started on our Swing Dance tunes - this year we are studying the music of Swing Era icons Glenn Miller (trombone), and the Andrews Sisters (vocal trio). | Thurs. 10/9 7-8:30 | Good work tonight! This week's practice routine: Listen to Kenny Dorham's Blue Bossa recording at least 1x a day (put it on your playlist!). Notice how he uses the melody to craft his solo. Focus on the rhythm section and how they are swinging beats 2+4. Make time to practice your improvisation - Put on the backing track and practice improv as a 5 minute warm up is a great way to begin - to get yourself comfortable with the basics and build your ear! Keep track of the chord changes we circled in m.6/14 and m.9. Use them to help you keep your place in the form of the solo.
