Patrick SheridanPatrick Sheridan is one of the most celebrated tuba soloists in history. He has performed more than 3,000 concerts in over 50 countries in venues ranging from the White House to NBA half-time shows to the Hollywood Bowl.

At 20 years of age, Patrick became a member of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band. During his military service, he thrilled audiences across the United States with his amazing virtuosity and musicianship as one of the band’s primary soloists. He has been featured in television and radio broadcasts on 4 continents, maintaining a busy international career with more than 75 concerts annually with orchestras, bands, and chamber ensembles and in recital. At home and abroad, Patrick also performs with the creative collective, The Big Bottom Band.

  • Sam PilafianA virtuoso on tuba, Sam Pilafian grew up in Miami. He has been a student of the instrument his entire life, receiving fellowships at Dartmouth and Tanglewood. Mr. Pilafian is also a founding member of the Empire Brass Quintet and the large brass ensemble Summit Brass. In addition, he has recorded and performed with Pink Floyd, the Boston Symphony, Bernadette Peters and the Duke Ellington Orchestra. In 1991, Pilafian teamed up with acoustic guitarist Frank Vignola, creating the duo Travelin’ Light. Dedicated to swing, classical and jazz standards, they have releases on the Telarc and Summit labels. Pilafian released Meltdown in 1998 with Scott Zimmer on alto and soprano saxophones performing the music of Ravel, Bartok, Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman and Captain Beefheart. He has also been a faculty member of various music programs, having held positions at Arizona State University, Boston University and Tanglewood Institute.   • Carol Jantsch – Praised by the Philadelphia Inquirer as having “a sound as clear and sure as it [is] luxurious,” tubist Carol Jantsch has been Principal Tuba of the Philadelphia Orchestra since 2006. She won the position while still a senior at the University of Michigan, becoming the first female tuba player in a major symphony orchestra.

    Carol has appeared as a soloist with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra, and the United States Marine Band, among others.
